Socially Responsible Computing Handbook project team seeks new members for Fall 2026

Interested in socio-technical AI governance, privacy and data protection, sustainability in tech, or UI/UX, software engineering, and product development? Apply for this credit-bearing opportunity to contribute to the development of Brown’s computer science education and join an interdisciplinary community of students and faculty passionate about developing responsible technologies!

The Socially Responsible Computing (SRC) program in the Computer Science department and the Center for Technological Responsibility, Reimagination and Redesign (CNTR) in the Data Science Institute (DSI) are working together to build a curriculum handbook that gathers and synthesizes interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder content on key SRC topics, including AI governance, data protection and privacy, and sustainability. This resource is primarily being developed as a pedagogical tool within the CS department for teaching assistants, faculty, and students, and is growing into a sustainable, public resource for the Brown community and beyond. It is already seeing use in classrooms both inside and outside of Brown! The project is overseen by professors Julia Netter and Suresh Venkatasubramanian. The SRC Handbook project has received funding from the Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN), Ford Foundation, and Google Research.

Apply to join the Fall ‘26 cohort of students working on the SRC Curriculum Handbook via this google form by Friday, May 1st at 11:59PM.  Learn more: https://tinyurl.com/srchf26
