Legislation Lab

The Center for Technological Responsibility, Reimagination, and Redesign (CNTR) is researching the rapidly evolving landscape of state and federal legislative proposals to regulate artificial intelligence. Our goal is to evaluate how effective these policies are in addressing the social, ethical, and economic implications of AI.

At the heart of this work is AISLE, the AI Legislation Evaluation Project, an iterative framework that systematically evaluates proposed AI bills across multiple policy dimensions, from transparency and accountability to privacy and fairness.

About the lab

The CNTR AISLE Legislation Lab is a semester-long program that trains undergraduates to analyze and understand AI-related legislation as part of CNTR AISLE. Participants will gain hands-on experience in AI governance, legislative analysis, and bill comprehension, contributing directly to ongoing research that helps shape responsible AI policy. Selected students will join a growing network of students, researchers, and policy practitioners committed to building a more transparent and effective framework for AI regulation.

Professional Development

The CNTR AISLE Legislation Lab is also a professional development opportunity. Participants will gain resources and training that prepare them for future careers at the intersection of technology, law, and policy. CNTR AISLE will also provide official certifications and materials recognizing their work.

Eligibility

Open to all undergraduates from any university interested in technology, law, policy, or data analysis. No prior experience in AI policy required.

Commitment

Selected students will read and analyze bills weekly for the summer with an expected weekly time commitment of 4-5 hours. Additionally, mandatory training sessions and short assignments will be hosted during May.

This program will be conducted remotely. The program will start June 8th and end July 26th.

Application available here.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, April 24th, 11:59 PM ET.

Advanced Scorers

We’re now seeking volunteer advanced scorers — law students, policy fellows, and graduate researchers — to apply the framework and help us refine its methodology.  Advanced Scorers will not be bound by a cohort and can join at any time.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and a member of our team will contact you as soon as possible.

Please feel free to apply here or  reach out if you have any questions about the application process or the responsibilities entailed.
